01 / SITE & APPROVALS

Does a glamping tent mean no planning approval?

You own the land, but do not know whether paid accommodation is allowed.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Check the accommodation use and operating approvals before ordering. A removable structure is not an approval pathway.

Practical planning suggestions informed by the references below. Confirm requirements for the selected model and project location.

01

Separate the room from the business

Queensland’s ABLIS listing includes tents and readily assembled structures within camping-ground accommodation requiring operating approval. NSW has several planning pathways. These examples cannot determine permission for an individual address or another state.

02

Start with a one-page site brief

Write down the address, proposed number of rooms, guest capacity, operating months, parking, bathrooms and wastewater arrangement. Use that brief with the local council or planner to establish what can be assessed and what supporting information is needed.

03

Make the first purchase gate practical

Before a production deposit, confirm the planning pathway and any conditions that change the room design. Ask the supplier for model drawings and relevant technical documents for local review. Product certificates alone do not approve your site.

Sources & context

Manufacturer references illustrate questions to resolve; they are not performance or service claims for FIELDLODGE products. Regional approval examples do not determine requirements elsewhere.
